The Tar Heel Traveler: More Stories From the Road In-Person

The Farmville Public Library is pleased to announce that Scott Mason, “The Tar Heel Traveler,” will be making his way back to Farmville on Monday, September 21 at 6:30 pm.

Scott Mason travels all over North Carolina, usually steering clear of highways and bounding instead along bumpy roads and off-beaten paths. He uncovers hidden gems everywhere he goes: people and places full of feeling and flavor—and wonder. In this presentation, he celebrates the colorful characters, out-of-the-way places, and rich history of North Carolina that are sure to educate and entertain. 

Scott Mason is a broadcast journalist with 25 years of television experience. He has won dozens of awards for documentaries, writing and feature reporting, including three National Edward R. Murrow awards and 14 Emmys. In both 2004 and 2005, the Electronic News Association of the Carolinas named Scott the North Carolina Television Reporter of the Year. Scott graduated in 1984 from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where he majored in both Journalism/ Communications and English. Scott works at WRAL TV in Raleigh where he researched, wrote and produced nine documentaries before adding his talents to the nightly news team as a reporter specializing in features. Today, Scott is known as the Tar Heel Traveler. His Monday through Thursday feature series on WRAL takes viewers along the back roads of North Carolina, where he meets memorable characters, finds out-of-the-way places, and unearths fascinating historical footnotes.
